Student Applicants

Applying for an internship:

The following information relates to internships outside of the department.  For department internships please click here.

Students should be at least a junior (60 credit hours) and have at least a 2.5 GPA.  You should also be enrolled in a medical insurance program (your own, your parent's, or the university student insurance program).  You must also be a full time student and have attended UNO at least one semester before obtaining an internship.

To apply for an internship you must fill out and return an internship application (Student Internship Application).  Then you should make a current version of your resume and a cover letter for each company you would like to apply to for an internship.  After you have returned the application, have arranged with a company to intern, and given the internship coordinator your supervisor's name and contact information, then you can enroll in the class.

You can intern with any company you would like.  The department has a number of companies that have expressed interest in having UNO students as interns.  Click Available Internships to see this list.

To get credit for an internship you must follow the syllabus and do all the required work including keeping a log of your hours, writing a paper and getting your supervisor's evaluation of your performance.  These together will determine your grade.

Most internships start at the beginning of the semester and finish at the end of the semester.  For these internships you will enroll just like any other class you are taking once you have department consent.

Some internship do not allow you to start and finish within a semester.  An example would be a feature film which may begin after enrollment closed.  In these cases, you can still get credit for the internship, but only if you complete all the work as per the syllabus.  Course credit can be either given in the following semester, or we can, on a restricted basis, enroll you late in the current semester you are doing the internship.

FTCA 4900/G can be taken up to three times for class credit.  Usually FTCA 4900 is not offered during the summer, but if you wish to get credit for a summer internship contact the internship coordinator in the spring semester and arrangements can be made to accommodate your internship credit.
